A Big "Step"

This post does not go along with my whole "simply living theme" BUT it was something that had to be done according to laws and code! It was a little pricey but our house is our baby and we pour so much love into it, we figured if we were going to get new stairs, we might as well go all out!

Our house was built in 1984. At that time the code for the distance between each bar on the banister of the stairs was 8 inches, then in the 90's they changed the law to 6 inches and now the new law is 4 inches. Somehow, our house passed inspection with 11 inch gaps between each bar on the staircase. NOT SAFE!

So here are the before shots

Here was the process

And here are our new Hickory wood finished stairs.LOVE THEM!

I think the stain matches our wood floors almost perfect. I was so happy about that!

  2. The difference is amazing! Looks so nice. I actually had to look back to see if you redid your floors. The steps bring out your wood floors.

  4. Fantastic Job! We are in the process of doing our steps; my husband and I are so intimated, but the stairs have been striped so there's no turning back now;/
